Nice look to the new website…Put me on the email list…Been there numerous times and enjoyed every minute…Steve the ‘night auditor’ is just an all around great guy…Give him a raise as he is always hospitable in the wee hours of the AM when we show up…We’ll be back because there isn’t a better place around!!!

The Winds is truly our home away from home. Our family has been coming here for seven years now. And in 2007, our future-son-in-law proposed to our daughter on the beach down by the pier. We spent the rest of that fantasy week planning a wedding with a beach theme (though in Ohio). Our lives and our schedules are busy, but every year we count the days to our week at The Winds where we become beach bums for the entire week. We begin each day with a quick walk on the beach and a hot breakfast buffet, and then we load up for many hours on the beautiful beach. The extent of any decision-making is the level of sunscreen to apply! Everyone fixes their own lunch, or chooses from the Garden or Tiki Bar. For dinner, we usually stay near the ocean and take turns fixing dinner, or we dine out at some local favorite restaurants. (Our first night is always at the Sugar Shack, and we must fit in a trip to Calabash and The Creamery.) A quick trip to Myrtle Beach for shopping is scheduled for a cloudy day, but we let out a cheer as we go over the causeway as we return to “our island.” Add in the hospitality of the staff, the beautiful view, and the uncrowded beach, and you have spent a week in paradise. Don’t miss it!

    Hi there,
We stayed at the winds from 3/14 to 3/22. We had an absolutely wonderful time at “The Winds”. The Staff is friendly and everyone made us feel like we belonged to your family. Having the Easter egg hunt and games on the beach on our last day was great except, it made us want to stay down even longer. We dreaded the 12 hour ride back to PA. We went to NC to visit our parents and ended up having a great vacation too! We will let all of our family and friends know where to stay from now on. I will be sure to tell them that they must have a “COCOA SNOW TOO”. Take care and we hope to be back down soon. Sincerely,
    The Kleedorfer’s

My family has been coming to the winds for over 25 years now, even before I was born making this a special place. I am now 24 years old and I have pictures of me as a baby at the winds.I am sure one day I will be bringing my children to the Winds. A family traditon just doesn’t sum up the experience we have every year at the Winds. The staff has become like family and the beauty of this beach never goes away. Take a look at the plaque in the garden infront of the main pool, it is deticated to my Grandfather who loved the Winds and this beach very much. If you catch my family at the winds, you might get a chance to see my father in action carving wonderful sand sculptures(a different one each day). On the last day we make the ultimate sand castle and with a crowd of 50 or more we light it with sparklers at dusk. It’s tradition to go into calabash for dinner and shopping one day in north myrtle. Sharky’s of course and crabbing on the beach at night. We have witnessed it all from whales, dolphins, turtles laying their eggs, to tropical depressions and the effects of major hurricanes. The beach has changed, the pier knocked down and re-built,and the upper-end of the island has eroded away, but this beach has never lost it’s charm. The friends we have made and the experiences we have had at the winds are not expressible in words.
Thank you to the Winds! We will See you Soon!

I was astonished to discover the tropical beauty and southern hospitality when I arrived at The Winds-the accomodations are excellent, the staff is superb! I had an opportunity to meet the front desk ladies, the gardener and the pool attendant – all very helpful and informative. Everyone was friendly, professional and most delightful! There were renovations and installation of an elevator during my stay; however, I plan to return with friends over the next year. Wonderful environment for singles, married couples and families. Like Key West without the unpleasant variables. Thank you so much for the many splendid memories of Ocean Isle in August, 2008.

We spent two wonderful days and nights at The Winds. It was truly so very wonderful. I took my two sons, their wives and four grand kids. The youngest (six years old) said to me “This Winds is better than Disney World.” He went in November of ‘07. He truly meant that too.

We just got back from our first trip to Ocean Isle today, and our stay at The Winds was wonderful! This vacation rated among our top beach trips. The Winds has a beachy, relaxing atmosphere, with lots of lush tropical foliage. We met quite a few people who come back every year, and were “neighbors” with a couple who have been coming every year for 18 years with their kids and grandkids! We stayed in room 211 which is on the 3rd floor. We did have a large palm tree in front of our balcony, but still had plenty of ocean view. In the morning we sat in our rockers on the balcony and watched the dolphins swim by. Having the two bedrooms, each with own bathroom and tv was great! Every day the staff came by and made the beds, (which were very comfortable with nice bedding), left fresh towels (thick towels), and removed our trash. Our girls (ages 12 and 14) had an awesome time, especially when they learned they could go to the tiki bar and order “the best smoothies ever” and bill them to our room number! We all loved DJ night at the pool, and had fun dedicating songs to each other. My daughter won the hula-hoop contest (which I can’t believe I also entered!), and we spent the entire evening by the pool singing to the great songs the DJ played! Our girls told us they had a really good time! Ken, the bartender at the tiki bar, is just great, as is Quessie, one of the cooks. We ordered pizza the first night we arrived and were surprised at how good it was. The last night there we had chicken quesadilla’s, and shrimp and crab quesadillas, as well as some appetizers. We enjoyed them by the pool under an umbrella. All of the food we ordered was good. The beach is nice (calm waters with small waves), and very easy to access. We saw alot of dolphins…..once even very close to the shore. Everyone on the beach stood up in awe and watched as numerous dolphins swam by! One night my husband and I took our beach chairs down to the beach and sat and had a glass of wine. We were practically the only ones on the beach! (That doesn’t happen at Myrtle!) They offer free bikes to ride, and one morining my daughter and I used a couple to ride around the area. Wanted to use them to ride to the ice cream shop one evening, but ran out of time! There are grocery stores nearby ( a large Lowes Food just across the causeway). If I’d known it was only about 2 miles to the grocery store I wouldn’t have lugged so much food with me! Also, you don’t need breakfast food since they offer a continental breakfast. It was a one minute walk from our room. There was an ever replentished assortments of foods, and plenty of tables and chairs. We also jet -skiid (my first time ever), and my husband and daughter parasailed.(highly recommend it!)….all offered just down the road from the Winds. We came home totally refeshed and rested, even after our 6 hour drive. Now that we’re home we miss The Winds, and are trying to figure out when we can go back! I think we’ve found our favorite “beach vacation” home!

  20. Leigh Anna & Anthony Says:

“Our wedding, May 19th, at The Winds was absolutely amazing. It was all that we ever hoped it would be. We couldn’t have done it without the help and kindness of the staff. Our guests were at awe of the beauty of the inn. You all provide the most relaxing atmosphere. We can’t wait to get back down there!”

  21. Angela & Phil Says:

“We got married at The Winds in September.  There is no other place in the world I would have been married.  It was breathtaking.  Everyone at The Winds was wonderful and we had the best time.  By the time that we got to the hotel everyone knew we were getting married there and made us feel so welcomed and special.  When we arrived our room had two beautiful champagne glasses and a nice bottle of chilled champagne.  All of our 25 guests that came with us were treated wonderfully and even some that showed up at the last minute were treated with high regard.  And The Winds actually gave them a room at the last minute!  I would recommend everyone going to The Winds every chance they get.  My husband and I can’t wait until our anniversary next year!  Thanks for making our day special!”

“My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful honeymoon at The Winds.  All of the staff was so friendly and just rolled out the red carpet to us!  We felt like movie stars!  The room was always clean and the view was beautiful.  It was the most relaxing place we have ever been to.  We are coming up on our 1 year anniversary and we are hoping to return to The Winds for another romantic and special trip!  I would definitely recommend this place for honeymooners!”

  23. Terry & Cathy Says:

We had our daughter’s wedding day at “The Winds Resort” on October 3rd, 2009. Everything went great. We stayed at The Winds two nights with a lot of other guests, got together Friday night before the wedding for our daughter & her fiancé’s bridal shower in the house we rented with The Winds. The next day was the wedding. The weather was beautiful, the bride was beautiful and we had a great ceremony on the beach. After the ceremony, we had the reception under the house we rented with catered dinner, the DJ and dancing. The day and the evening went great thanks to our coordinator, Cheryl and others involved.
That’s not all, after the reception, our daughter and her new husband jumped in the ocean in their wedding clothes and the wedding party followed. It was so funny and made for some great pictures.
Thanks Cheryl and all who helped to make this day perfect.

  24. Tom & Donna Spears Says:

We had our wedding ceremony/honeymoon at the Winds Resort. Cheryl, the wedding planner at The Winds, made the process very simple and stress-free. Cheryl took care of everything for us – all we had to do was show up and get married. We are looking forward to returning to The Winds next year to celebrate our anniversary.

  26. Kym and Shawn Atkins Says:

Overall the entire staff were friendly and very helpful. We cannot say enough about Cheryl (The Winds’ Wedding Coordinator). She made every step to planning and executing our wedding seamless and absolutely the best day of our lives! We couldn’t have done this without her. Being able to go from our ceremony to across the street for our reception and then right to our rooms allowed us to spend all the time we wanted the whole day and night. We thank Cheryl and the whole staff for a wonderful stay!

  27. Dave and Cindy Slocum Says:

We just returned home from a week stay at The Winds. We will look forward to returning. The staff was helpful, friendly. The breakfast was very good. The food from The Thirsty Tiki was good especially the pizza we made the mistake of ordering a pizza from Cinelli’s very expensive and not near as good as the pizza at The Thirsty Tiki. The drinks were also very good. The pool by the beach was always crowded so we spent one of the days at the other pool and my daughter, myself and grandson were the only ones there. The beach pool is more fun and seemed more tropical. The beach is beautiful and not crowded at all. My daughter and I also took advantage of the free water aerobics and Zumba classes. The ladies in the class and the instructors were very nice and it was a lot of fun. My husband and son-in-law took advantage of the golf pkg. We had two small problems in our bathroom but as soon as we alerted the front desk someone was there immediately to fix the problem. The room has everything you need. My only complaint is that the room was small but we were not in the room but to sleep. Also the beds were doubles not queens and my husband and I slept in separate beds because of that, but with all the sun we got we really didn’t mind that either. Sharky’s restaurant was very good, service was very good. I would not recommend Inlet View, the service was terrible and the food wasn’t very good. We hope to return next year with more family members.

  28. Darrell Stafford Says:

I had to cancel our week at the winds. This will be the first year in 20 years we haven’t been as a family. We have been going with 8 to 10 other families these past years. Hopefully we can make it back next year. We have made many memories and meet many friends there over all these years. If you choose not to go visit then it will be your loss. Its a wonderful place to vacation!!
